Home daycare in a bright main-floor space with an experienced caregiver.
Child-directed and play-based
I give the kids lots of chances to be creative, invent their own play, make choices and problem solve. I encourage them to be aware of their surroundings and their own capabilities so they can build confidence, learn to make safe choices, and develop motor skills.
Flexibility within stability
I co-create a daily rhythm with the kids. They learn what to expect from different points in the day—and where there is flexibility to follow their interests or needs. For more about our day, check out the daily schedule.
Growing independence
I support kids in growing their independence by encouraging them to learn tasks like dressing, using the toilet, washing hands, feeding themselves and cleaning up our space. It’s important to me that children have lots of time to be themselves, to learn and grow the way their minds are naturally inclined to.
Open communication
I work to communicate with you, the parent, as much as possible. I want you to know how your child feels, who they are making friends with and what they are interested in right now. Throughout the day, I’ll send you pictures and updates.
Enjoying healthy food
For examples of the food I will provide your child, please see my sample menu. We will also have fun cooking together, whether that’s making pizza dough, muffins or smoothies.
Learning all day
I sprinkle in lessons throughout the day: counting our apple slices during snack, naming colours we see in our lunch, singing songs on our walk to the park, practicing fine motor skills during eating and dressing, caring for our space by tidying together and setting our own places at the table.
What to expect at Roaming Rascals
I am dedicated to child-directed play-based learning.
I provide opportunities for children to explore their own interests and develop socially and emotionally. In my care, children learn to interact respectfully and kindly with each other and with the animals that share my home. We explore nature and observe wildlife.
Children’s emotional well-being is my priority. Throughout the day I provide opportunities for them to explore their feelings and learn to express themselves.
